CMF PUBLISHES NEW REGULATION ENABLING A MASS QUERY ON THE DEATHS OF ACCOUNT HOLDERS

On October 29, 2026, the Financial Market Commission (“CMF”) published General Regulation No. 578 (“NCG 578”), which establishes a voluntary, mass-scale, and free mechanism to enable regulated entities to verify the death of account holders whose funds, in accordance with the law, are subject to transfer to the National Board of Fire Departments of Chile (“JNCB”) because they have not been collected or claimed by their heirs or legatees.

NCG No. 578 provides for the following:

  • Submission of Information to the CMF: Entities may submit, through the CMF Supervisa platform, a list containing the National Identification Numbers (RUN) of holders of shares, claims, fund units, dividends, and other assets eligible for transfer to the JNCB.

  • Verification with the Civil Registry: The CMF will forward the received lists to the Civil Registry and Identification Service to identify deceased individuals and obtain their respective dates of death, subsequently making this information available to each institution.

  • Deadlines: Entities may submit the lists between January 2 and 11 and between July 2 and 11 of each year.

NCG No. 578 will take effect on February 1, 2027.
