This new Regulation will replace the current Supreme Decree No. 248, 2006, from the Ministry of Mining.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed new Regulation aims to address the current challenges in managing tailings storage facilities, pursuing the following objectives:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Adapting the current regulations to the standards governing tailings storage facility engineering at the international level;<\/li>\n<li>Considering advances in tailings engineering, especially related to new methods of tailings disposal, and national and international experience regarding failure studies;<\/li>\n<li>Setting rules for projects that include the extraction of tailings from existing tailings deposits; and,<\/li>\n<li>Establishing clear requirements that provide users with tools to present better tailings projects.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The public consultation period is 25 business days, from July 8 to August 12, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Observations can be submitted through:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"translation-block\">The Ministry of Mining's citizen participation platform: https:\/\/participa.minmineria.gob.cl\/es-CU;<\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\">The institutional email: participa@minmineria.cl;
